4 base and 4 Universal clear coats completed!

Base and clear ar finished! 18 hours straight! I have 4 coats of base and 4 coats of clear. I really didn't have any trouble except for trash in the finish. This morning I temporarily assembled the body panels so I can see how things look. I love the color.
I do have a lot of trash in the finish though. Hopefully it will come out in the color sanding and polish stage.
I am thankful and appreciate the help of everyone, especially Barry!
I will take a break for a while, maybe a couple of weeks. In the mean time I will get some pictures posted and start collecting what I need for color sanding and polishing.

Are there any good references for the color sanding and polishing process?

What polisher should I buy? I see a DeWalt used a lot. But its expensive. I would like to shop first, so what are the features needed?

I assume I start with wet sanding 1500 with a soft block. Any recommendations on a block?

How about pads?

Finishing products / brands?

I use a makita with a loop handle and personally i love it, but I do find that many times i have it maxed out or close to it when buffing.

Ditto on the Makita.

Allen, I'm thrilled it turned out great, know it was a learning process for you, but you did it and won.

Won't hurt a thing to let that car set around a couple of weeks and let the paint shrink, so to say and then fist sanding should be with 1000 or 800, what ever one you feel best with using and use only a soft hand pad, no block at this point.

what color did you choose? Pics!!

It is 68 LeMans blue. At least I am pretty sure I bought the right color. I will get a picture tonight.

one thing i do have to say about the makita, is that mine are 10yrs old, used alot and still work great.

The Makita is lighter and more powerful than the DeWalt so I bought it. Hopefully it will be here by next weekend. Comes with a wool bonnet. I also bought Meguires polishing and buffing foam pads. Thanks for the recommendations guys.
What compounds do you recommend?

I would recommend Meguiars 105 & 205 combo for your application.

i bought a flex rotary buffer. they've been around for ever and pretty big in Europe . very good speed control . my old b&d is getting pretty old . tired of listening to my air buffer :) . i also use the chemical guys compounds. i buff at slow speed and need a compound designed to work that way.

Just cut and buffed a Lemans Blue Camaro today. I started with 1000 wet to take out any imperfections, then 1500 wet to smooth the 1000 scratches. Then I hit it with a 3m Trizact 3000 disc on a short throw DA with interface pad and with the disc damp. I am using the 3m Perfect it system of compounds to buff with. After the first round of buffing with the cutting compound it looks awesome. I used a Meguires red foam pad with the first step and I will use the Meguires yellow foam pad with 3m polishing compound for the final step. The Makita 9227c buffer is highly recommended.
