Air leak when the spray gun needle is closed

Gentlemen,

I tried a search for “gun leaking air” and could not get my answer so here goes. I have the Eastwood Concours spray gun and like it quite a bit. After using it for over a year it started hissing air when the needle was closed. I just installed a rebuild kit in it which included a new needle fluid set. It still is leaking/hissing air evidently back through the plastic packer and spring that the needle passes through.

My question is, do any of you use a spray gun that hisses when the trigger is released? I do not think it will affect the fan pattern or spraying characteristics any but just bugs me. I used emery cloth and fine steel wool to make sure the needle was smooth as there was a very slight step about where the needle goes through the packer.

I may try stretching the spring that was taken out to see if it will put more pressure on the packer.

The problem isn't with the needle it's the air valve, either the plunger is disformed or there's debris at the contact area where it seals or an o-ring/seal is bad. Pull the trigger off and remove the airvalve assembly and have a good look
