Just got my base from Chad’s and when looking at the instructions it say’s the pot life is 30 min? Is that correct?

Base reduced or unreduced will last a very long time stored airtight. 30 mins isn't right. I do not recall seeing a potlife even mentioned on my motobase.


Edit- I was curious and went to get a can. mine says drying time pot life: 15-20 mins I think they just meand drying tim in air after sprayed. not potlife in cup.

Yep no issue in cup. In fact I painted parts in sessions and used leftover from one session to the next with days in between. Cup was sealed and I filtered it into a new cup before spraying but it wont set up on you in the cup.

It is misnamed. Pot life and dry time are not the same. What that label means is 30 minutes and then you can clear. Pot life with Motobase LV with no activator is indefinite. With activator at least 5 days maybe more. Activator in conventional base doesn't actually activate anything technically.

@RayH Well, at least you read the TDS carefully. That alone will solve many of the issues that people have.

For some reason I follow several Facebook groups about body and paint.

Everyday, "I just shot my base coat. How long should I wait to clear?"

Thanks Dean. Since it has been 30 plus years since I lasted painted cars and all the new products I have no choice. I will say the SPI products are great and this forum has been instrumental in my success so far. I can honestly say the BC/CC sprays a lot like the lacquer I used to spray.
