Bare steel paint

P

I'm restoring my 69 Cougar Eliminator and some parts are suppose to be natural steel. Is there a color that could be sprayed to match the look of natural steel? hood springs, leaf springs, are just a few of the items im tallking about. any help would be appreciated.

thanks

house of kolor mirror reflective.. but dulled a little... house of kolor aluminum effect or ppg liquid metal.

There's lots of different cast and bare steel simulated aresols on the market but I haven't found any to match the bare sheetmetal look. There are some good cast iron looking sprays though. I did have to match that bare sheetmetal look under a package tray and dash not long ago and ended up mixing my own. I've also done the galvanized look.

Chrome paint and a little manipulation while wet, then lightly sand with 3000 to dull out the high spots.

I don't think I have the skill to pull that off. Hats off to you!

I'm willing to bet you could market this product to restorers.

i assume it would be he same procedure (sort of) as marblizing?

very cool stuff indeed!

Fold up a few paper towels and tear it for an end that resmbles a rose-best description I can think of, then dab the paint while it's wet. Practice.

Some light work with polishing compound and it will dull slightly to look aged.

I've done it several times, similar method only using saran wrap bunched up(like a rose bud).Gives a galvanized look. Also did some that looked similar to a brushed stainless, but kind of a crap shoot(easier if the part is flat,a hood hinge would be tough)unless you get lucky.Practice is right.
