Best filler for rock chips in 2000 corvette hood...

What filler / skim coat would folks recommend for filling rock chips on a 2000 corvette hood?

Search button and posts by shine esp say evercoat 870. Anything else I need to know that would be different than boat / gelcoat or metal body and paint work I've done?

I was driving down the highway a few weeks ago, I caught a boat seat that came out of a boat being pulled the other direction with the hood of my 2000 corvette (ie it hit me going 120+ mph) . I wound up finding a used one that's black and looks really good except for some deep rock chips on the front part. What filler is going to be the best to keep from seeing any of the spots I fill ghost in the hot summer sun next year? I've seen some repairs on these hoods that look great until the sun hits them for a while, then the outline starts to show through. The car is factory navy blue pearl color and has been repainted using ppg base and extra layers of clear. I blocked the whole car, before painting and again after the clear was on then buffed it out out so it looks like a sheet of glass. I'll redo the hood the same way using ppg base and SPI universal or Euro clear, so even little imperfections that show through may wind up being visible. Thanks much for any advice / input you may have.

btw. Unfortunately the guy with the boat on the trailer got away and probably never even knew what happened. He was probably pissed that he lost the bottom of his boat seat... I turned around as soon as traffic allowed and tried to catch up with him, but the state trooper who pulled me over shortly after didn't necessarily agree with that idea. Thank goodness he was kind after looking at the long ragged hole in the hood, and white glass dust all over that side of the hood and windshield. I wasn't going anywhere near the speed limit and it could have been truly ugly in traffic court...

With a 2000 smc hood you have no choice but use the vette panel SMC repair like shine says or epoxy with a two part glaze over it.

IF it was me, sand down with 180 to smc, two good coats of epoxy and then after 48 hours apply dolphin glaze where needed, re-epoxy sand and paint. and paint.

Ive never had any luck with just filling chips ive done it 2 times and it will ghost down the line, I always feather them out now and start over. If its worth doing, then its worth doing it right.

soooo.... the recommendation is to carefully sand the paint off at in the areas where the small chips are (being careful not to take much off below the paint) with 180, seal it with epoxy (no wiping down in between), then to do any minor filling that's needed (presumably non if I sand the paint off - the hood looks great aside from the spattering of a dozen or so rock chips. Thanks again for the help!

Exactly, what you are likely to find is the chips are only in the paint, so sand out epoxy and go.
