Black epoxy on firewall.

I have been using Krylon semi gloss black on my firewall and have not gotten the results I want. I need to use something that can be sprayed from a gun. Do you think black epoxy is semi gloss enough to be used instead of a krylon semi gloss black.

Great I will sand the firewall and get as much of the old stuff off that I can.

My frame, entire suspension, springs and calipers are all black SPI epoxy:

My inner fenders are SPI black epoxy as well:

I sprayed my whole car with epoxy and drove it for a year before I painted it this summer. I had a lot of people come up to me at shows and comment on the semi-gloss.

Remember, the gloss level is adjustable with epoxy.

The slower it dries, the more gloss you will have. Spray it wet and unreduced for maximum gloss. If you want less gloss, put in some slow or medium reducer and that will make it more flat.Coupe1.jpg

I guess it would depend what amount of gloss you want. I am sure others on here have way more experience messing with this and could tell you exactly what to do.

Just as a guess, you could start at 10% reducer and see how it looks.

I'll spray the bottom of my cab and bed unreduced with two coats, then mix up some with 10% medium reducer and see how it looks.

Just remember what you do in your test. From what I understand, it is all about how fast the epoxy dries. Flash time between coats and temperature will effect the gloss quite a bit.

I would recommend letting those first two coats dry overnight or atleast a few hours, then spray some reduced epoxy on to flatten it, if that is what you want. If the first two coats are still drying, that is going make it more glossy, and it might be harder to reproduce the same gloss.

Sprayed bottom of cab and bed with two coats of unreduced black epoxy, waited overnight and the next day sprayed two coats of black epoxy reduced with the medium reducer by 10%, waiting 45 min. between coats. Turned out great. It has a really nice satin finish, just what I was hoping for. This stuff and forum is great!!!!

I made sure to write down everything I did so as to keep track if I wanted to paint anything else to match this satin look down the road on my build. Now that the bottom and firewall of the cab is done I can get this back on the frame. Thanks again.
