The Black Paint picture shows it needs mixed with activator 4:1 .So it's a 2k Urethane Paint? I'm new to painting. I'm 69 painting my 99 Harley Fatboy. Which clear coat is the most scratch resistant? The mid grade clear a Medium or High Solids? Thanks

Ok thanks. Just making sure. I'm trying to learn. Paint is expensive and can't afford any or many mistakes.

solid content has nothing to do with scratch resistance. it has to do with how hard the paint is. softer paint will scratch easier but chip less. harder paint will scratch less but chip way more because they can get brittle. spi is in the middle to softer side.

I did my Street Glide with SPI black base and then did the ghost flames with red and blue pearl in intercoat clear. The lettering is gold pearl in intercoat clear. Covered with Universal Clear. If I do it again I will use Euro Clear. Universal is awesome but kinda soft and gets micro scratches easily, buffs right out but I think Euro is harder and less maintenance.

Agree on the Euro Clear. It is much more scratch resistant.

Great job on the ghost flames! I have never even attempt anything like that.

Thanks. Full disclosure, I did the black base and clear, but had "a guy" who actually knows what he is doing mask and shoot the actual flames.
I did several runs on a test panel and got the colors and blends I wanted and that helped him.
But actually taping it out and shooting, that art is beyond my ability.

Looks good. The lettering was stenciled I assume?

Very Nice! Is that a Positive or Negative Template? You sprayed the white HD lettering on the black base coat? How many layers? How long before you removed the tape stencil? Then you clear coated it?

It is an "inner" style template. Here is the link to the one I used
It is gold pearl in intercoat clear. Probably about 3 coats. Just shot it, let it flash, shot some more until we had the desired coverage.
Black base dried overnight then applied the template and shot the logo.
Pulled the template after a few hours, let it sit overnight and then shot clear.

Ok Thanks. I'll get a few extras to practice with applying it to surface, painting amounts, drying times and stencil removal. The little parts could be tricky

Practice is a good idea. Yes, it was tricky getting the little parts of the stencil (inside the A's and D's etc.) off. I used the tip of a razor blade, very carefully.

I ordered Six 4" Inner Stencils Two for Pactice and Two for tanks and two for just in case I screw up! Thanks

Good luck!
SPI solvent Wax and Grease remover and quality wipes are your friend. Get it clean, clean, clean before laying stencil down.
