Black Single Stage recipe

Would it be possible to use a black dispersion in Barrys HS clear to make a black single stage?

If by "dispersion" you mean dry pigment then yes, if you mean liquid toner, then maybe. The suspending liquid would need to be compatible with the clear (Urethane). Either way, mix a very small amount and spray it to confirm that it looks and cures correctly before going all in on a gallon or two.

All SPI topcoats are high solids. I would recommend #4201 Black Single Stage instead of the DIY approach.

I did not know he made a black SS. Last i recall, he stopped making it.... iirc
I quickly browsed the spi products page and only seen Matte black SS.
Thats good. Problem solved then.

I wanted Blue but was out of luck and had to go elsewhere. And blue used to be available so that made it hurt worse.
