Body side moulding prep/paint

Hay all, Have some of the factory body side mouldings for a 2010 Sierra to paint/install. They are new ones, vinyl/rubber? from GM, they are white now(not painted). Here's the plan: clean with waterborne, 2 coats bulldog black, spi epoxy sealer 1:1:1, base, then clear as needed. should I use flex additive? Does this sound ok, not used to working on anything after the 60's ha-ha! Craig

They may need an adhesion promoter but I no longer recommend Bulldog after having some delamination problems with their product. Save yourself some potential trouble and use SPI 600-4 adhesion promoter, please.

crash, i've used bulldog a lot before. what did you have issues on?(what type of substrate). I agree that spi promotor is much better tough

Aren't those mouldings primed when new? If there's a light coating of primer on them don't use adhesion promoter! Scuff them good with a grey scotchbrite and some scuff paste then epoxy seal and paint-they'll last better than the oem finish I see failing on a lot of GM truck mouldings.

I had a problem with a Kia bumper, the Bulldog peeled off the painted portions surrounding the repair. To me it's a no-brainer to use the SPI because it can be activated. I've not had it fail me yet.

And Bob is right, of course. I just really didn't feel like going into how to identify substrates.

Crash, I didn't know SPI ad-pro could be activated, thanks.
