Brushing Reducer

So, I'm moving forward on this fence job. Long story short, it looks like it will be brush applied. I have been unable to rent an electrostatic paint unit.

So should I use the reducer to match the Temps or would you stick with one over the other.

Wright or wrong I've used 870 for almost everything my entire life.

THANKS GUYS

The only time I ever aware of a "brushing reducer" used with a 2K urethane was with a brand called Mathews aimed at the sign industry.
It was a very slow speed to give the paint a chance to flow out the brush texture. Ratio of reducer?, probable just enough to make it work. IDK I never used that product with a brush. How the same idea would work in other 2ks is questionable, they all flow and set a lot faster compared to oil base type paints, making the 2K's very difficult to apply with a brush with any decent finish results.
When you mentioned electrostatic all I could think of was Powder coat.

prob no reducer like jim said and if you did maybe just 10% retarder to help flow out. all these paintes are designed for spraying so i think your going to have a hard time brush applying it. make a pass with the brush then come back to smooth it out and the brush will probably stick right in it. they do make a brush converter for awlgrip. that is a different animal and very slow. it flows out super good though when done right.

mathews is a paint i havent used in alot of years. i have prob 25qts sitting here in my shop that is probably 15 years old. i believe ppg bought them a long time ago and i have not found anywhere you can get it anymore. you could accelerate that stuff and it was dry enough to tape on in 10 min

The OP said in a previous thread that he's going to be using 30 to 50 gallons of epoxy. Since its at ready to spray consistency when mixed I don't imagine you'd want to reduce it further. In any case, sounds like a job from hell :)

Ugg brushing epoxy especially over a large area will be a pia. Its so thin for spraying so to get 100% coverage you will have to brush 3 coats min and the brush marks are going to be terrible.

Guys, I'm so stressed and tired over this job. I MEANT ROLLING/BRUSHING SPI epoxy on. Yes looking for 3 to 4 mils final build.

While spi is great epoxy, it doesnt sound to me like its the right one for the job. Its thin and best when sprayed. Why not use an epoxy that is thick and meant to be brushed or rolled. More of an industrial epoxy. Maybe corlar or similar

I've spoken to Barry about all of these issues EXCEPT when they decided we were not going to spray it.

I've lost much sleep and years off my life worrying about this job.
