Candy Apple red Advice

I will be spraying my motorcycle tank with spi base white with candy apple red stripes, there may be some black in there too. I'll try and see If I can come up with a photo shop of it. What order should I lay this down, which brand should I use, and will the spi universal clear work over all that. For the steps please break it down, don't worry about anything before base coats. I know I need to practice some panels and see what base coat I want under the candy. I want a r deep red. This is very important to know, I think, well for me. If I want to paint my frame the same color candy is it vital that I should try and spray them at the same time? That want be probable for me. Thank you for time.

if possible shoot the candy apple red first then mask it off for the white and black, the number of coats of candy will effect the darkness and depth so shoot some test panels-a let down panel.

yes however after the candy red you will need to clear it really well. 3-4 coats. let it cure real good for a few days then do your white. if you dont your white will always be pink. if you do the candy red over the white you will have a very heavy paint edge you need to bury.

anytime!

just pick the lesser of the two evils i guess. gotta remember that candy is dye not an actual pigment or mineral. the dye migrates with solvents. when the solvent in your base penetrates down then the candy goes with it. when its coated overtop then the solvent penetrates then eventually comes back out. that red will follow. key here is let the candy set overnight to totally flash. then clear really well and let that sit. sand and paint your white. dont sand the clear too thin. a cut through will leave you with a pink spot.

Lets say I use dupli color candy apple red, or can I? Its a lacquer paint, will I be able to use spi universal clear over that?

Ok... who would you recommend? I was just thinking about my pocket book for the first time doing candy. But I do want it to look good, so....

just get some spi intercoat and some hok candy red concentrate. you will need some type of light metallic pink or red to go under the candy as well. you will need to get that locally somewhere.

The intercoat is the clear that will go over the candy and under the white? I've seen that on the forum homepage. I didn't open it cause I don't want to open another can of worms. Have you had better experience using metallic pinks and reds rather than silvers and golds? I don't have any, just referencing what I have read.

intercoat is just clear basecoat. you will mix your candy dye into it to make a candy red basecoat. to seal the candy all in and prevent the bleeding you need regular catalyzed clearcoat. candys are much easier to spray if you put them over a base a few shades lighter than the final color. sometimes i will take silver and mix the dye i am going to use into it to make a base.

This is off subject, but does anyone have a recommendation for a paint gun at beginner prices that can spray a candy or base? I used my main guns for epoxy. Thanks
