changing gun tips ?

Dmac

I would like to be able to change tips on my iwata lph 400 from the 1.4 for base and clear to a 1.7 for priming. Could someone recommend to me a reliable source for the nozzle tip and what ever else I will need.

Thanks,
dmc

I went to Iwata's website, looked at the parts manual for the number of the tip, and googled it. After clicking on shopping, it shows a few people who sell it. I believe Eastwood was one of them.

Dmc,

I'm not sure why you want to spray primer through your Iwata LPH 400 but if you have your heart set on being able to make the change, I think you have only two choices. You can buy a 1.6 nozzle for $104 and use the 1.3/1.4/1.6 needle that came with your gun. Anest Iwata doesn't offer a 1.7 setup so your second option is to buy a 1.8 nozzle and 1.8 needle for $134.50. Those prices are from the Coast Airbrush site: http://www.coastairbrush.com/lph400parts.asp

The goal when spraying primer is to apply enough so you can sand it level and smooth, not spray it smooth out of the gun. Shine's suggestion (and mine) is to buy another gun for spraying primer. Shine specifically recommended the Vaper 2.3, available at Northern Tool. If you want to spray heavy coats of primer, the Vaper 2.3 is a pretty good gun. For $39.99 you get the gun, cup and a regulator. You can buy two or three of these for the price of the Iwata parts....

my iwata is for color and clear. i will not shoot primer through it . the vaper gun was a surprise to me. i bought one for the hell of it. if it lasted one job so be it. it is now several years old. it works great for heavy build like slicksand and works good with gelcoat. you can dial a big gun down but you cant dial a small gun up .

Thank you Gentlemen one and all for your expertise and replies. Looks like I will go to Northern tools and get the Vaper. Trying to learn but as you can tell am just getting started. The good advice is greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

dmc
