I am trying to clean up a car I painted a few years back it has a bit of over spray ect. after setting around the shop I got a Mothers clay bar and it is working very well.my questions are how to store them after use,or do they wear out and you just throw away? Is it sorta like sand paper and you can just tell that it is time to get a new one? Are all bars created equal or some better than others. thanks

They are all pretty much the same. After they get too dirty throw it out and buy another. Mothers sells just the bar as does Meguires.
I stick with the name brand ones just incase, no need to worry about a few dollars.

I use a clay bar towel. The clay is attached to a microfiber towel. If you drop it, simply wash it off. A towel lasts for about 30 cars.

I never seen those, I will have to look for it. How is the clay attached to a towel? I would think if you washed it the clay would come off but then again I never seen one.

Update. I ran out of the detail spray (lube) that came with the Mothers kit so I decided to try the Meguiar's kit. The lube did not seem to be slick enough and the bar was a bit harder than the Mother's. all in all to me the meguiar's is a waste of money.

I recently tried the Chemical Guys clay and lube. I'm not a pro, so I don't know what to compare it to. I've used Mothers a few times in the past. Overall, it did the job and I was pleased.

I tried this clay sponge, and it worked OK, but wasn't quite aggressive enough on my truck that hadn't been buffed for 2 years. For follow-up wash or touch up, it will be great. But I don't think it would be aggressive enough to clean up your overspray.

Next up was their medium clay. Worked great. However by the time I was done, it was super sticky like bubble gum.

Their lube is reasonably priced at $15 gallon
