cleaning the tar, or whatever this awful stuff is from weather stripping

I have pulled all of my windows and weatherstripping loose from the car. The door stripping was in a chrome strip and when I pilled the strip off it had a tar sealer under it, along with the windshield. Is there a preferred method to clean this gunk off after I've scrapped most of it away??

There are two kind of sealant that it most likely could be. If it's butyl rubber, you just remove as much as you can then use solvent based wax & grease remover like SPI #710. If it's weatherstrip adhesive, you might soften it with reducer, but it will likely require removing some paint to get it all off.

That part of the car is in bare steel. Its a 69 mustang and whatever it is its still gooey, almost the same too that was under the windshield, and both places do come off with lacquer thinner and scotchbrite and a TON of elbow grease. Would MEK or some other solvent work better?? Would a scotchbrite roloc work or would it just load up??

Did you try a slow drying mild solvent blend like SPI #710, PPG DX330, or equivalent? The problem with what you are trying is drying speed. You want those solvents to hang around and soak into the material so it can be more easily removed. In a pinch, even slow reducer would be better than what you are using.

Excellent. Will try. This is my first paint job so I don't really have any of those things laying around. I have some waterborne w/g remover but no solvwntborne or reducer laying around but will get some the next time I order.
