Clear wrinkled

This is the first time this has happened to me and I was wondering if anyone knew what I did wrong.
I painted the plastic side mirror housings on my Yukon Denali. First I sanded the textured plastic surface, applied adhesion promoter and sprayed 2 coats of SPI epoxy. I let it dry overnight (I'm in hot Miami), then I sanded the housings smooth with 600. I shot 2 coats of DBC 9700 black and let it dry for an hour (I didn't put any catalyst in the basecoat). I then shot 2 coats of unreduced UC and it looked great. I let it dry overnight and then put the housings back on car where it sat in the sun (about 88 and sunny).
The problem is on the housing that was directly in the sun all day, I noticed that the clear is very wrinkled. The other side which didn't get quite as much sun is fine.
Did I put it in the hot sun too soon? Thanks. I going to try to sand and buff after several days and see what happens. If not, I'll redo it.

Hot sun to fast no doubt was the issue however, usually the sun will not bother the universal in this manor and I have had the same issue happen a year ago on a trim piece and we GUESSED I stress guessed the in that case the adhesion promoter with two coats did not set long enough before the epoxy was applied.

Also adhesion promoter setting to long can cause issues, so I'm guessing problem came from the adhesion promoter.

Now for the correction, let it get a few good day of hot sun and hopefully the wrinkle will shrink to the point you can scuff the clear and re-coat with clear.

If it was the adhesion promoter it will shrink down over a day or two.

great post to learn from. i put all my cleared pieces in the sun the next day for hours so there are no surprises and ive never had it wrinkle. how long should adhesion promoter sit before coating with epoxy, and do the mirrors need adhesion promoter for the epoxy??

yes, adhesion promoter can do funny things. you need to remember that less is more with that stuff. the part needs to be 100% covered with it when you spray but the thinnest coat possible will always give the best results and adhesion. 1 medium coat is all that is needed. anymore than that and you go backwards.

Here is what we have learned with this adhesion promoter.

Bottom line if you want a child proof repair, do one medium coat and wait 15 minutes and coat at 70 degrees or higher.

Our tech sheets were written to do two coats to be like everyone else but I now know for a FACT they are only trying to sell product.

Takes time to change catalogs.
