Deer hit

Drivers rear door recieved a nice dent from hitting a deer. I was hoping to get some info on where to start my repair. Going by the last in first out method, I'm thinking to start pulling or lightly hitting a 2x4 from the back side at the body line in the vertical crease damage. While doing that hit down lightly at the top of the door ? I appreciate any and all thoughts from this great place.

Yes, I have looked and found a couple ,one even has a decent looking quarter also .This thing really needs a rebody, it has alot of rust- but I'm not going there. But its a SRT and a fun beater. Thanks.

Sometimes a used door from the auto wreckers is a reasonable way to go.
Even if you can find the suggested used door, If you are wanting to learn how to smooth out that type of damage, now's your chance. Pushing the low spots out while tapping the high spots down is the process of course, but learning where can only be figured out by trying. The big dent up high will be the easy part, as the body line and the curve will give you a stiff area to work with. The stretched metal down low at the inner reinforcement will be the tricky part. It will want to "oil can" on you.

I'm going to spend some time on it, just wasn't sure to start high on the crease or at the body line. I could just stay in the fast lane, the right side looks good, lol. Thanks.

I've been trying to wrap my head around how this deer accident happened. I see a busted up front window, broken drivers mirror and the dent on the driver side quarter panel. I can see how the window and mirror would be damaged with a deer jumping up to clear the car and was nailed first by the front window. I'm not seeing how that deer nailed the quarter panel.

Does it really matter how it happened, no but............. forensic deer accident investigations is a dying trade :)

Ha, been thinking the same. Only thing I seen was his big ass head appeared at the windshield and hit it- must have spun him to his left and his big fat ass got my rear door.I was doing about 60. Fat ass horny bastid, hope I ruined his morning romp, lol. Not going that way to work anymore, 2 of them in a year.

I custom mounted some PIAA driving lights on my delivery van, I angled them about 20* out from straight ahead, which lights up the ditches. This set up has saved me many times as I can see them much sooner then with my headlights only. I also turn my dash lights off so there are no interior distractions. the other helpful thing to do is remove any crap swinging on your inside mirror.

That's a bit much to learn on. Definitely will need to shrink those areas that have been pulled around the intrusion beam. For me 100% a used door, though, it's at least an 8 hour dent.

Found a door, this one won't open. Probably gonna get uglier if I can't slim jim it open. Thanks all.

If you got another door cut around the handle off the old door with a panel skinner, cut off wheels, tin snips whatever you have. Usually the rod pops off the handle or snaps off the handle etc. Open it up and you’ll be able to pop it open.
