today i purchased a dimplex 4800 watt electric heater/
i have let it run so far for 4-1/2 hrs and the body temps all around the fiberglass body read 65-70 degrees
outside temps today were maxed at 37 degrees.
this little heater is working so good i bought another one to put on the other side of the garage.

so after spraying all of my epoxy/base/clear i can let these things run and cure the paint instead of running my kero heater
 
yes only pulls 20a at full blast i keep the thermostat at halfway
 
AKA welder circuit. He'll pop a breaker or fuse before he'll have other problems, assuming the electrician used the correct size wire for his 20 amp circuit. As far as having the thermostat halfway down, that generally doesn't control the amperage draw of the heater, just when it kicks on and off. The heater will draw the same amperage when it's on regardless of thermostat setting.

the breaker is sized to protect the wire. #8 wire rated for 40 amp circuit. the heater came with a cord sized to handle the load of the heater. best would be put 2 seperate 30 amp circuits with #10 wire. you dont want that wire acting as a heater. USE NO extension cords extension cords create voltage drop thus increasing amp draw. watts (4500)/ volts (225) = amps (20) now enter extension cord that isnt #8 wire drops volts drop say 15 to 210 volts 4500/210= 21 amps. best use one on 40 amp circuit or 2 seperate 30 amp circuits.
Shine is correct. i have seen plugs melt because a plug draws more than it is rated at. yet the breaker never tripped.
 
the number one reason in shop fires is electrical . always has been . the number one reason for electrical fires is electric heaters . they are nothing more than a short circuit .

I was referring to a 20 amp heater plugged into a twenty amp circuit. My first sentence was simply stating that a 40 amp 240 volt circuit is most likely a welding outlet. My next statement was referring to the ability of a circuit breaker or fuse to open a circuit which is drawing more amperage than it is capable of handling. If the wiring & outlet is capable of 20 amps (12 AWG) and the heater is designed for 20 amps usage, it will not melt a plug nor will start a fire. If you have 2 things on 1 circuits drawing 20 amps each, it will pop the breaker when designed correctly. If the plugs are melting and causing fire before the circuit breaker pops, then you have a heater which is poorly designed and is unsafe, also most likely not UL listed.

I am a 21R, military electrician in a vertical construction unit, no Google knowledge here. But go ahead and take your condescending attitude and keep trying to insult everyone who disagrees with you because the only way you can try to solidify your point is to try to slander another person by saying things which you know nothing about. It's not your first post doing such and I'm sure it won't be your last. You may think you are helping but in truth you are pushing people away. No one wants to be put down and insulted.

Would it have been too difficult for you to say "Plugs can melt and cause a fire?" instead of not only assuming I was using Google but stating it? It also is not "my house" as I'm not the OP. Ignore the irony in my next statement, but grow up.
 
My best bet is to keep one on one side of garage on for a few hours then move it to the other side for a few hours. Only reason is i dont want one side of the car warmer than the other
