Door to Panel Adjustment.

When doing metal work and hanging doors, should the weather stripping have to be installed on door before proper surface adjustment can be made? It seems like the proper way to adjust doors is to install new weather stripping, make correctiions, then remove weather stripping and paint jambs? It seems like attempting to adjust doors without installing the weather stripping is not the best choice. Im wondering about shooting the jams in epoxy, installing the weather stripping, then masking the weather stripping off for base/clear or single stage.

I have always adjusted doors without weather stripping (when doing a full paint over). If weather stripping has any effect on the door gaps then you either have too much play in the hinges from wear or the weather stripping is to way too hard. Some brands of stripping will compress easily and have no effect on the door gaps at all.

Thanks Mike, I will get the doors on and get the gap right, then see what I have for level door to surrounding sheet metal. They actually had a tool made for these old F-100 trucks that installed on the door and put pressure on the top, bottom, and mid section to bend the doors flush with the surrounding sheet metal.
