is it safe to apply epoxy primer over sanded factory EDP coating?

or would you recommend to strip to bare metal?
thanks

If you are unsure of the quality of edp on the part then strip it. (some aftermarket parts from lowend suppliers can use less than quality methods and products on their parts)

i have tested the EDP by wiping with a cloth saturated in acetone and none of the coating came off so i guess i should be good to go :)

I would test the parts with a rag soaked in lacquer thinner. Simply lay the rag on the part for a couple of minutes. It the rag has no effect on it, then it is safe to paint over. Simply scuff it and apply epoxy. If the thinner attacked the coating, I would strip it.

I had this same question for my replacement rocker panels.

I figured the edp being so thin would come off simply with 80 grit.

I won't worry about every nook and cranny, but the easy access exterior surface will be a simple strip with 80 grit, so why not just get epoxy on bare metal to ensure Superior adhesion.
