Epoxy Curing Question

So I got the 2 coats of epoxy on the car and started the body filler work/blocking. I would like to do as much of the sanding as possible outside but saw in other posts that being in the sun will reduce the 7/14 day recoat window. Is this a function of the heat or UV that speeds up the curing of the epoxy? If UV, can I put some old sheets over the car in the areas I am not working on? Thanks.

Depending on your location. When I quizzed Barry on this he was hesitant to give me exact figures as like I said you location and time of year have a lot to do with how much UV your panel sees.

Yes lately I have noticed that... this was a quote from a long time ago and with Arizona blue sky sun.

where did this 7/14 day recoat come from. i noticed on FB this is claimed. there are so many autobody hacks on there it's crazy. lot of bad information being given.

I saw it written multiple times you have 7 days to recoat without sanding, 14 days with sanding and over 14 days needs to be sanded and recoated with epoxy.

i don't push even the 7 day window. 3 is my max. but that 14 day thing is going to get a lot of folks in trouble if they misread it which i've seen on FB.
hell right now it's more like 30 minutes around here.

Also yes if you can cover it from UV then you can use the normal guidance.
