Epoxy on Chrome(Real & Plastic)

Q

Quazz209

I know that the new standard for the epoxy primer over chrome is to just clean with the 700 waterbase wax and grease remover and shoot 2 coats of epoxy. Just wanted to make sure this applied to my application as well. I plan on shooting the front bumper & Grill of my 2500HD to color match the chrome to the body. Does this apply to the plastic parts that are "Chrome" as well? Would an adhesion promoter be required for any of this?

I also plan to give them a thorough washing hit with a gray scrub pad to ensure all bugs/tar & road grime are physically removed prior to using the 700. Does anyone see this creating any issues?

Thanks!

i would use a red scuff pad instead of gray. you really have to give the chrome a good scuffing and cleaning. it applies to the plastic chrome as well. should not need an adhesion promoter with epoxy.

No new standard for epoxy??

If it is a chrome bumper we do it the same we have for 10 years and that is HAND SAND with 180 or DA with an 80 grit.

Plastic chrome must be scuffed with something.

Just so there is no misunderstanding and mess ups.

Red scuff pad followed by the 700 and 2 coats epoxy on the grill

The bumper will get the 80 grit DA followed by some 700 and the 2 coats epoxy.

Thanks for clarifying. Now its time to get to work.
