I sprayed this fairing with SPI grey epoxy using a 1.4 tip HVLP cheepo gun at 38PSI trigger pulled. I had the fluid open about 1 turn. This gun seems to really lay it on if opened much and a 1 sec pull of the trigger leads to a WET oval shape.
The surface of the fairing was sanded with 220 and adhesion promoter.
Epoxy mix and induction as per tech specs.
I have received some replies from autobody101 forum saying that I will need to sand it back with 400. I'm leaning toward the gun being the culprit, since its el-cheepo and tough to dial in. Fancy gun is on the way but will take couple weeks to get. I needed to spray this to take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather we are having around here.
Being a newb I just wanted some ideas about surface finish that a primer should have which would be conducive to lay BC over. I'm guessing just like an eggshell surface/ the 1200 grit paper look? (or is the standard to always sand and then lay the BC?)
Thanks.
