Hello. Been wanting to try flake for a while so I plan to give it a go on my hooptie that I just finished a repaint on. Just going to do the roof. The flake I'm going to use is a .015 from tropical glitz. I have guns and tip sizes up to 2.2. All gravity fed. Should I shoot that size out of a 2.2? Also is it preferable to apply flake suspended in intercoat clear or in clearcoat. Will finish it off in euro 2020. I searched the topic on here but couldn't really find the Info I was looking for. Thanks.

Agitator cup--SATA and Iwata market ones for gravity if you use those brands (may only fits some models)--Devilbiss and Binks for pressure fed cup below the gun is one of many choices for such things

i have some bearings from a 55 chevy. they have been in my box for 50 years i guess. an old guy gave them to me while i was shooting a flake job. man do they work . i have one of the original jga hvlp's. things out of control. great for mini flake.
i'm low on dx83 so i just bought some .004 silver to compare. i aint paying 90 bucks for 4 oz of dx83.

Most people use intercoat. You could use clear but its going to end up costing more. Spi intercoat mixed 1:1 with reducer and add as much flake as you like . Afterwards spray your euro . You will probably have to flow coat it. I'd spray 3 coats of euro then sand with 800 grit and go 2-3 more coats of euro. If you don't flow coat it, it's going to look lumpy/blurry. And might be rough to the touch. I've spray flakes with 2.0 gun. Just keep shaking the gun/cup

man it's hard to find a good flake gun. most are 1.8 tips. i'm going to get a new one . i need a 2.3 or so i can drill out. i looked at my old one and it's pretty sad.

Iwata airgunsa come in 2.0 and 3.0 tip. I think 2.5 also. I have a 2.0 for primer

Hmm? I've had my 2.0 for over 2yrs and it works great for 2k high build....gets it done for poly....it definitely isn't like my lph400 though..?

I bought an Airgunsa over a decade ago and was sorely disappointed at the build quality. Nothing like Iwata. I wonder if I got a fake.
Not unless I got a fake too. I was very disappointed as well. I bought 2 of them to use for primer and while they sprayed allright they had lots of durability issues. One the cup locked onto the gun so that I could'nt get it off. Still haven't. Other a gasket failed and while I guess I could get one, stull like that shouldn't fail with less than a dozen times used.

spi intercoat is what i use as well. the .15 flakes you should have no issue going through a regular 1.4 tip. i have always used gravity guns but you do need to always be sort of swirling and shaking the gun to keep it from settling. any 1/2 second you can take while spraying just give the gun a quick shake.

Perfect info. Thanks! I'm looking forward to trying it. Going to order the flake today
