gun cleaning

when using any high solids primer or even epoxy you need to keep the gun rinsed. if left in gun during flash time the solids will collect in the nozzle . this will slowly shut down the flow. ever seem like the second or third coat goes on dry ?? this is a trick i came up with years ago when i started using gravity guns.

get a ketchup bottle or something similar . i bought these by the box back when i was doing more custom work and using my airbrush for colors.
after a coat i empty the cup , wipe it out with a paper towel then insert the bottle full of thinner. pull the trigger wide open and flush the nozzle good. now i have a clean head ready for the next coat.

just food for thought and worth exactly what you paid for it . :encouragement: flush bottle.jpg

Hey Shine, that is a great idea thanks for sharing. Also can you shoot a pix of that 55gl drum condensing unit?

i have the drum apart right now. i am going to make the coil from soft copper . it is a blue plastic drum from ag use. i ran the coil down to the bottom to a T . ran a drain off it to the outside of the barrel so i can drain off the water . then back up into the service line . i had it back by the blast booth but will move it closer to the compressor this fall when i move everything and replumb the shop in copper.

i keep my freezer full of water jugs so i can drop a couple in it when i'm going to be running the booth all day . water never heats up as it sets on concrete in the shade.
being a country boy i make my own instead of buying. sometimes it would be cheaper i guess to just buy but it just aint in me . :)

Shine, this method is nothing short of genius! In my few attempts at sprying multiple coats I've done this very thing. Dump the matrial into a sealable container, wipe the cup, insert the squeeze bottle, pull the trigger and squeeze. Once it flows clear = clean gun!

Good stuff!

that's a great idea, thanks for sharing. being a novice painter, these tips are VERY welcome!

Nevermind. Re-read the post and got my question answered. Thanks, Mitch.

I use the Devilbiss bag system, after spraying I just lay the gun on its side between coats. Then when ready to spray, just
disconnect the air, turn the gun upside down and pull the trigger
to let the paint run back into the bag, then shake it up
real good to mix it, and reconnect the air and spray.
