Help for Newbie with Wetsanding and Polishing

B

Bob in MO

I've sprayed my clear coat this past weekend and now I've been reading through the forum on wet sanding.

I will be using the V Line Polish & Compound Sample Kit from the Chemical Guys with the Lake Country 6.5" orange and black pads.
Before that I plan on using Norton Black Ice wet sanding paper. The Black Ice paper goes up to 2500 grit. So I guess I will start with the 1000 grit and jump in in 500 grit increments.

Does that sound right to you guys?

I also read something about soaping the sandpaper, do you guys do that?

Other questions:

Which size of paper should I get, 5.5 x 9 or 9 x 11?

Anyone know where I can get the Black Ice paper without having to by a whole sleeve of each grit?

What kind of block should I use? (soft, hard, sizes, and shapes)

Thanks,
bob

Soaking will never hurt you and some papers it is a must to soak first.
Black Ice, i have done both ways and really makes no difference.
You might look at a 1/2 sleeve and any paint jobber can have overnight from his PBE warehouse as all the majors stock it.
Or there is on line.

On the lake county pads: blue is for cut orange is for fine polish and black is for finish polish/glaze you might want to order a cut pad or go to your jobber and get a 3m foam cut pad, the white one with a waffle face is my favorite cut pad, and then I move on to the lake county line up

if you sand to 3000 you can skip the yellow and start with the orange then finish with the black . the blue pad is a polishing pad . if you go to their site you will find several grades of cutting pads and polishing pads. keep in mind many of them are used for detail work.
