How long can tape stay on?

I want to mask everything off in anticipation of getting to spray in about a week. How long can the tape stay on and be effective? I'd like to start in a couple of days masking everything, then hope to spray it around 6-7 days later when the weather turns warmer. Thanks
 
I have never left anything sit taped that long, but if you are going to let it sit a while i would strongly suggest a good line of tape. Something like the 3m green or yellow, that would stand a better chance. I know if you used something like the hystik, it would be hard to get off after a few days, without leaving residue.
 
I've got the green 3m I'll be using. I kind of wondered if it would hold out or not. Maybe I'll need to rethink my masking job. I suppose in reality, it wouldn't take me long to tape up a pickup. Just trying to get a head start so I could jump in after being away for a few days.
 
I would suggest taping it up, and then areas like the window, tape all but the last half inch.. that way you can come in and just put one row of 3/4 tape down before you paint.
that way a majority will be taped and ready to go, you will just have to tape up to the edges and then spray.
