How long should i wait before putting filler over fiberglass?

Chris

Is there a certain period that i should wait for the fiberglass to off-gas before scuffing and applying filler over top of it?

The longer the better. For collision repair, a lunch hour out in the sun is considered plenty, but for resto work, time is always on your side. Shove it out in the sun and work on something else for a couple days.

Thanks! Im forced to alter the hood for my 67 mustang build for clearance reasons. Well, actually, I had to alter/raise it for a second time today because i did not have the supercharger pulley on when i measured initially. I glassed it back together this afternoon and i plan to let it sit per your recommendations for two days. On Sunday I will use a a layer of kitty hair to fill in the void where the angle has changed and let it sit for another day in the sun. Next i will use a thin layer of evercoat Vette Panel Filler. After that sits for a day, i will wipe it with 3M Platinum body filler and then spray with SPI epoxy, followed by SPI 2K high build primer.
Comments, criticisms?

i would loose the kitty hair and use evercoat 870 . if you use the kitty hair you will see your repairs every time it hits the sun .
when applying the 870 be neat. once cured it sands hard so get on it fast.

Thanks for the response. I used kitty hair once to fill in the roof voids where the panels join on a 67 mustang and I never had a problem with it swelling, but i really dont want to take a chance on this hood. And YES, the 870 does get hard as concrete once it is fully cured. Recently made the mistake of letting it sit too long before sanding, but fortunately it was just a small area.
