I didn't want a four post lift

The house across the street from me has a shop with a four post lift.
New owner didn't want the lift. Not a car guy and it was in his way.
He offered it to me for $1000.
It's a tuxedo 7000lb model and currently sells for $3245.

Naw, I want a two post, but I'll spread the word.

Two weeks go by and he knocks on the door. "I really want it gone, if you come get it, you can have it for free."

Now I own a four post lift. And it's growing on me. Think I'll keep it and set it up. I found out you can get a rolling center jack to lift front or rear wheels, and that was the hold up for me.

Turns out he likes Black Velvet, so a half-gallon will show up on his doorstep.

Those lifts usually come with dollies that let you roll it around. Ask your neighbor to see if he has them. You could have rolled it across the street. Very handy for moving it around the shop.

I use my two post lift daily. One of my four post lifts is used for car storage. The other is used occasionally to check driveline angles with the suspension loaded at ride height. Given the choice of one or the other it would be hands down two post.

He did not have the dollies, for sure.
I thought about getting some to move it, but it was 2 inches too wide to go through the roll up door.

Got tired of looking at the lift parts sitting on my trailer and decided to set it up in the shop.
I have plenty of friends who tell me "just call if you need a hand." But why bother them? Shouldn't be hard to do by myself. What a terrible idea. Lucky I didn't break something or have to call 911.
But it is in place and just need to hook up cables etc.
Think I'm going to like it!

Ok I got to ask, what is that seat in the bottom left of the last pic?
I was looking for the perfect bucket seats for the el Camino project and went through a few before settling on the ones from a BMW 328i.
I now have six bucket seats in the shop and in the way.

The one in the picture is from a 2003 Toyota Celica. They are nice but just not a fit for the EC.
Also have a pair of Procar Rally buckets.

Both the Celica and Procar sets are up on Craigslist and FB Marketplace for sale right now.

I got the lift all assembled and leveled and ran it up and down a few times.
Noticed when it is at full lift you can push on the posts and get it to sway a bit. Hmmm...
Read the instructions and they said "the posts don't have to be bolted down to the floor, but if it makes you more comfortable go ahead and bolt them down."
Yeah, makes me more comfortable!

Pro Tip: If you are going to get a cheap arsed hammer drill from HF, be sure and pay the $7 for the warranty. The first one went up in smoke on hole #10. Not a problem, just go get another one for free, no questions asked ;) Drill number 2 is looking shaky after holes #11-16. Think I'll go trade it in for yet another . . . good tool to have available for the future.

And you might ask "how do you get a non-running car up on the lift ramps?
Easy! Lag a $89 HF ATV winch to the floor and winch that bad boy up there.

First car lift on the new hoist. The car is ready for final buffing and I'm actually looking forward to doing it with my new DeWalt buffer and the car at a comfortable height. Life is good!
