i just screwed up big time - need help

I have been in the process of blocking my car using spi 2k primer. i got used to mixing it 4 to 1. I had an area I had to fill and on the sanding process I got a little over zealous and broke through so I mixed up a little spi epoxy to cover the metal. problem is I mixed it 4 to 1 instead of 1 to 1! I only used 1 part activator to 4 parts expoxy. What do i need to do to fix the problem???? Do i need to sand it all off or let it dry a lot longer. either way this is going to suck. rookie mistake and no i wasnt drinking or anything just had my head in rear end!

I am no epoxy guru but I do not believe an amount of time will cure the epoxy. sorry to say it, but start sanding.

Before I answer this I want to stress that this answer does not apply to 2K primers, Clears or SS. Epoxy cures in a different way!!!!

4:1 the epoxy will eventually cure, so I give you two choices:

If in a hurry sand off with 180 grit on a DA.
If you have time, give the panel seven full days in the sun, temp is not important as clear days but heat does help.
Then do not sand, just clean with wax and grease remover let set 60 minutes and spray two wet coats of epoxy over it mixed 1:1 with no reducer added.
Very important to flash the epoxy 30 (or longer) minutes between coats at this point as the first coat will pull solvents and needs time to dissipate them.

luckily I had only 1 coat that I used and I only mixed a small batch to cover some sand through areas. I got everything sanded off the car body but I put a coat on the rubber nose and rear cover for a 78 trans am that I still need to work on. Basically out of the last 10 days it has rained 8 of them so getting 7 days in the sun could take a month or more in michigan this time of year as it is the rainy season so I will be forced to sand off as much as I can. I guess that will be a lesson learned for me. Pay very careful attention when mixing!

I would have thought that if caught within a couple days, it would wipe right off with thinner because it is catalyzing very slowly...?

Crash, sometimes it will but have had deals where it would not wash off the second day.

I just ended up sanding it all off. what a pain in the butt. I am back up and moving forward again

Shaun, if it makes you feel better, any painter that tells you he has never mis-mixed anything, means he has never painted.
We all have done it with something.

More than once I have had to scrape off filler that I didn't put enough hardner in.

I done this with bad hardener on many occasion......
