I've got some trash in my UC. Which grits to use onwards to buffing?

I

IH1972

I've got some trash in my final 3 UC coats (despite using a wall-mount and in-line air filter) and need some advice about which grit to start with wet sanding to remove the trash. I'm certain that 500 would get rid of the trash, but I don't want to go overboard and remove too much CC.

I'm wondering where this junk is coming from. I'm relatively certain that it's not coming from the gun, but I'm at a loss as to what to do in the future to avoid this as it seems impossible to have an "as sprayed" job if trash is getting into the mix. I'm thinking that it may be from my crudely-constructed booth as I've noticed that the vertical panels don't seem to have nearly as much trash in them as the horizontal panels, so I wonder if it's coming from the booth itself.

Also, I was planning on sanding trough 2000 grit and then buffing, but I have no experience buffing a car and need advice about which pads/bonnet/grit to use for buffing. I really don't want to mess up this paint job that has about 1178 man-hours.

I've got a DeWalt buffer that is new.

Recommendations for the grits to use and what buffing system to use?

Thanks, Shine. It seems almost impossible to keep things sanitary enough to not have trash in the booth.

Any tips for finishing with wet sanding and buffing?

Looking good, Most of trash came from the brown masking paper, go to white or blue next time.

Take 1000-1200 to the real bad areas and 1500 to rest, as does not look bad at all.
nice job.

Could someone offer some guidance as to what I need to buff/polish after the 2000 grit paper?

Go to paint store, have them set you up with a cutting compound and a wool cutting pad, then a say 1500 type compound and a mild wool cutting pad, that should be all you need for that color.

You are really at the mercy of the paint store and what brand they sell but they should know what combinations you need, to get the job done.

lol. if i went to local jobber around here and said i wanted a 1500 compound they would say.. WHAT? lol.
Like you said he is at the mercy.

Well, I probably WON'T be going to to jobber that sold me that paper that left crap in my clear coat.

Barry, you reckon that Larry would have what I need?

Larry, will most likely have everything and plenty of choices, except 3m and that would not be my first choice, anyway.

I've always liked 3M products, but I've never used their buffing compounds, etc.

Barry, what would be your preferred line of buffing supplies?

Thanks.

There all good as long as you have the right pads for the compounds you are using.

I only use presta but I know the system upside down and would not know how to use , say 3m or one of the others.

I think Larry is a big Presta store but have not been in there in a couple of years, to know if he still is.

Larry will give you the best items to use for the price as that has been his trademark for the 30+ years i have known him.

Hard to go wrong with the presta ultra cut with a black pad. followed by some of the chroma polish with a green pad.

I like the Chrome Polish. On dark colors I use it as the middle step in a 3 step buffing process. I like it because it's fine enough to shine up, buffs off clean to easily reveal imperfections, but has enough power to get rid of them, usually.
