OK this is likely a stupid question but not the first time for me asking stupid questions LOL's!

I have a 69 Corvette project that I bought with a PPG base Delton and 3 coats of PPG clear paint job Can I successfully wash, wash, 700, 800 sand and put say 3 coats of SPI clear on??

This project was never finished after the PPG paint job a few years ago. Adhesion of the PPG is good but I am thinking some SPI clear would make it look a LOT better. Or cut and buff and move on?

Much thanks for the responses. Sounds like great advice! Will cut and buff and see what I got. Might well be opening a can of worms to do otherwise. I already have too many other open cans of worms now ha ha!

Do not know what kind of ppg clear. I would assume and HOPE if the seller spent the money for Delton then they used a good clear too.

To answer your first question yes you can put SPI clear over PPG clear and visa versa.
The bigger question here is did he strip the car when he did it.

The old rule from the 50s or 60s from generous motors was.
Factory repaint.
1 paint over.
They must be stripped.
So bottom line if adding the SPI clear is now the 3rd paint job, do not do it just live with a buff job.

Hi Barry and much thanks for the info.
Who knows on repaint, might could do some detective work and find out.
Think I will do a light cut and buff as rec'd above and see if it looks OK.
