Looking for opinions on my DeVilbiss FLG-3 gun

I have this FLG-3 that has the 1.3 1.5 and 1.8 tips. What are your guys thoughts on spraying the epoxy and 2k primers with this gun? I know most of you guys prefer the Iwata or the Sata guns based on the threads I have read so far. But if I can use this gun for the primers it would save me a few bucks for now.

I sure do not know of any reason you can't be laying down your primers with that gun. I would use the 1.8 if you are somewhat proficient at spraying. If not the 1.5 will do fine as well as the 1.3 for the epoxy. For the 2K, the 1.8 would be my choice although the 1.5 will work. with 2K you need to move :)

Thanks, I thought it would be a decent gun for that. What about the SPI clears? or is the fan length to short. IIRC its got an 10.5" fan, where some of the better guns have an 14" fan on them.

To the top.

I'm in the same situation. 1.3, 1.5 tip. Which to use for epoxy, and which one for clear. Or, buy a 1.4?

thanks

I'd use the 1.5 it will work just fine.

I have an FLG-3 also and am quite pleased with it. Kind of aggravating to clean and keep up with that little white seal under the nozzle.

I use the 1.5 for reduced epoxy, the 1.8 for epoxy without reducer and the 2.2 for poly primer. If I was using 2K I would use the 1.8.

Have not tried shooting base or clear through it.

I seem to remember a guy who had a FL and sprayed his Mopar Panther Pink with it and had lots of problems. His friend came over with an Iwata and he said it made all the difference in the world. He spent a lot of money wasting paint while fighting the FL that he could have spent on a good gun to start with.

Found his video's;

I have a FLG-4, basically the same gun as the 3.
I use the 1.8 for primers and it works better than any gun
I've tried.
It also sprays base with the 1.4 better than my Iwata.
I use my Iwata for clear and my FLG-4 for base and primer.
both are great guns.

I was looking to buy an Iwata when I found a new, in the box, FLG-3 I had bought on clearance and stashed away (and promptly forgotten about) a few years back. I decided to give it a crack and lo and behold, it turns out to be the best gun I have (and saved me $400 to boot).

I originally bought mine to spray cab acrylic lacquer for cabinetry work. So I am hoping this works good for the epoxy primer.

Something nobody has mentioned is,The FLG came in a HVLP & a HP version.I have one of both in the old FLG-2.I "prefer" the HVLP model and have tip's up to 2.2.
If your using the "right" gun but the "wrong" PSI,It's not a "pretty" thing. It's my epoxy "go too" weapon with a 1.4 reduced, even straight, just open it up a bit and up the air some.2.2 if for poly filler primers. My first metallic job was based with the FLG-2 HVLP & a 1.4 using Omni and a HF infamous "Purple HVLP" (yeah right,45 PSI is HVLP?)However,Outside of being a little light on the pass rocker, was an amazing success. VERY underrated gun and cheap, plus,it's "bag" set up.

Humm? Doubled for some reason.

I have a FLG-4, it's basically the same as the FLG-3
I usually use the 1.8 for full strength epoxy,
but this time I tried it with a 1.5 and think it does better.
Layed it smooth and slick.

Thats good to hear, I just bought a 1.8 off of ebay to use with the epoxy. I didn't think my 1.5 would do it.

I have the FLG3 and use it for primer. I'd like to try it with base, what sort of gun-cleaner would I need to make sure all the primer is out of there??

I like my flg3 for priming overalls, but I'd love to find some a little more precise for small spot priming. The finishline seems to splatter abit when I dial it down. I might be searching for something that doesn't exist. LOL.

How are the sata primer guns?

Well,Believe it or not.The Harbor Freight "Mini Purple HVLP" gun is an EXACT knock off of a Sata MiniJet 3 outside of the air cap, which the Sata has 2 per horn vs the HF with 1 per side.I have BOTH and the "part's" WILL interchange. Hoooog Kooong....friggin copy cat's.
Otherwise,I would go with an Iwata mini LPH-80 with the largest needle/air cap combo 1.2,3/E-4 air cap.http://coastairbrush.com/LPH80 Flyer.pdf.
I use the mini Purple gun for ALL kinds of stuff from epoxy to clear for "general purpose",small/hard to get too stuff.I go to the Iwata with a 1.3/E-4 for "paint" I've used it with SPI epoxy,straight/reduced for primer to sealer to SPI Base/SS for small stuff or interior base.An exceptional gun,Just wish it had a larger cup.:sorrow:

BTW With the De Ville.,Unscrew the CUP from the gun as "paint" WILL build up between the gun & cup under the cup.:disgust:
