Metalworking video

Nice find.
It looks like a cross between 3D printing and embossing. Hopefully, they will offer a service for hobbyists once they get the process fully sorted.

Yea, obviously crazy expensive. Not so sure why this would be better than tool and die. Unless maybe exotic materials that couldnt be stamped?

Forming an accurate prototype hood for a truck as shown in the video would be even more crazy expensive. Coming from a metal stamping and CNC background I find this very interesting. The software engineers are truly on an elite level. As with anything else eventually the cost will come down.

It really is an impressive tool/machine. My hope is it can be refined to the point of being able to replicated sheet metal parts in a timely manner. It's not so much the time it takes to shape the part with the robotic tool, but rather the time it takes to program the robotic tooling. I wonder if there are machines which can scan an object with great accuracy, and be able to transfer those scans into dimensions for programming the robotic machine.

This would be a blessing for sheet metal parts in the restoration world where many parts are not reproduced. All one would need is an existing part to scan/copy. If the service could be turned around in say a week after placing an order, it seems like a money maker for all involved.
