My 1969 GTO

I just got a birthday message from here today and it made me remember that I haven't posted anything here about my GTO.

So here it is:

This was my first ever paint job, done in my garage. What you're seeing is SPI gray epoxy over bare metal, followed by "many hours" of surfacer, blocking, etc., then reduced SPI gray epoxy as a sealer, PPG DBC 9700 Black (activated), and finally SPI Universal Clear. Oh yeah, then after that "many hours" of color sanding, buffing, etc.

Thanks to SPI for quality products and helpful guidance, Kevin Tetz and "Paintucation" for my education, and my bride for her patience :encouragement:

There's also a 15 minute video out on youtube that's sort of tells the story in pictures, if you're interested.

Thanks,

Cool! After all them years I bet that first drive was a throwback in time!

It looks like your son is now doing more than chewing on the Channelocks :encouragement: This is what its all about!

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Yes, it was weird driving it that first time, it felt really strange. I have enough seat time with it now though that it just feels great. I'm taking it on the whole Power Tour in June, that is if I don't blow it up racing it between now and then. I've been participating in a local series, the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge (tmccc.org). There's another race coming up this weekend. Best outing so far has been an 11.86 @ 113 :D

That's pretty quick for street trim, I assume it hasn't been lightened in any way, those cars are pretty heavy, which means you have a LOT of grunt under the hood!
