New mixing bank

Quit being such a buzzkill, Chris! ;)
I know. Just a pet peeve of mine. That phrase gets used so much. I'm really not quite the a-hole as I come across as often. But the beauty of being past 50 now is that I don't care as much what people think of me as I used to. So like one positive thing about getting older, about 50,000 negatives.... :D

To be clear Jim I wasn't directing my grumpiness towards you. You just happened to mention that phrase.

You're absolutely correct though. Like I was saying; it's the super obvious stuff that's a dead giveaway the vehicle has had poor repairs done. Sanding scratches, dirt in the paint, panel alignment, etc.

Sanding and polishing is huge for me. If there's huge dirt nibs in a finish its obvious that it's been repaired at a lower standard. I get paid probably 80% of the time for sanding and polishing. I may have to send photos of the process to the adjuster, but most pay for it.

It's all about doing your job to the best of your ability, and show some pride in your work.

That one positive improves even more past 70;). Yes true plenty of negatives though.

Spoke with the local mipa jobber out of the twin cities today. 3 hours away, but the closest jobber to me.

I like what I heard from him about the paint line. He said there's no issues using spi reducer with it, He recommended the spi euro clear over it as well.

It is a non-binder system, grab a toner, reduce and spray

Color matches are supposed to be great. Said that shops have better luck with it than any of the sw lines that he also sells.

Pricing is very attractive as well.

Be interesting to know the upfront cost differences getting a bank installed between some of these lines as well….Wanda, Motobase, mipa, etc. All my local distributors are mainly ppg.

Matrix is about twice the price of mipa for a complete set of toners. What Chad quoted me on motobase was in line with matrix, but he quoted me almost retail on pricing

Sounds like mipa is pretty cost effective. Any incentives on the whole unit or gotta pay the whole shot?

Bartman said it is very similar to Diamont and Glasurit. So similar that he can't tell the difference.

Been a while ago now but Bartman mentioned the whole system toners, mixing bank, color tools etc was only $1500. That's incredibly cheap. Granted that was 4+ years ago but even if it doubled since then that is still dirt cheap. That's really cheap enough to justify having even if you are low volume.

Exactly my thoughts. Like you said even if it doubled in price I’d be more than happy at that amount. I’ll have to look in to them. Worst case I think they ship out of NJ if I remember correctly.

The jobber and Mipa are discounting the first round of toners and color chips to $4k. Each additional set of toners is around $7,500. Camera is $4,500. There's a jobber just south of Minneapolis that I spoke with today and also one in Chicago as well. I'm not sure if the pricing is different between jobbers or not. I hope to get in touch with the Chicago jobber tomorrow and find out.

I messaged him last night and received a reply from him. He's still using mipa and hasn't had any comebacks and said the color matches are good

Mipa is looking awefully good. I'm going to figure out which line I'm going with before the end of the year so I can use the new bank as a tax write off for 2024.

Damn…bart got a hell of a deal getting the whole shebang for 1500.

Pulled the trigger on a Mipa mixing system...
Refinishers Supply out of Savage MN will be my new jobber. Tony awnsered any and every question I had about the paint line.

Just have to get my paint/supply room cleaned out and organized so i have room for another mixing bank and computer cabinet.

Really wish i was working out of my new shop already. Current shop is short on space. Hoping to be in the new shop by this time next year. Fingers crossed...

After quite a bit of research I chose mipa because of the feedback from bartman, the jobber, and researching online.

I spoke with 3 motobase jobbers in the chicago area and the majority of the red pearl colors in motobase are usually 3 stage finishes.

2 of those jobbers are also wanda jobbers and recommended that over motobase. It's an added step and more material spraying a 3 stage for 75% or more of the pearl reds that come in the shop. That along with the lack of color research on the newer colors turned me off from it.

I couldn't find a jobber in Chicago who would ship Wanda because of the hoops they would have to jump through to ship hazardous materials. Apparently there's surcharges and training that would have to be completed. Both said I was more than welcome to drive the 3 hours and pick up supplies in person though, Smh.

Just thought I'd update everyone with which direction I chose. I will update this thread with my experience with it once I start using the paint line if anyone is curious about it.

A big thanks to everyone who gave me their opinions and thoughts on everything. This forum has a huge wealth of knowledge, and I'm proud to be a member here!
