New Project

Hello All!

I've used SPI in the past and really love the system. Please see the pictures below - this is the truck I restored with my son:

I used SPI epoxy, 2K High build, SPI Base and Universal Clear. You all were a great help through the restoration project - THANK YOU!!

Now my new project - this is my daughters car. She is a recent college grad that is under-employed, so I have to keep this vehicle going.

As you can see I have some work to do. The paint is original OEM Toyota except for a previous repair done to the front bumper, right quarter panel, hood and right door. I need to reuse the original OEM color that I will have mixed. I plan on replacing the damaged parts and pulling the dent. My plan is to:

Sand all to 600 grit,
Epoxy prime to seal,
use PPG Deltron Single stage paint (OEM red)
spray two coats of Universal Clear
wet sand and buff (I get lots of trash)

What do you think of this plan?

Now my questions:

1. Do I need an adhesive promoter if I do not sand to bare plastic on bumpers?
2. Do I need a flex agent with the Single stage paint (I understand that SPI does not require a flex agent) on bumpers?
3. Can I use SPI reducer in place of DT reducer - how about SPI activator for single stage paint?
4. Any suggestions to using another brand base coat?

Thanks in advance for any or all comments!

Wax grease remover
Sand 400
epoxy seal
base coat
Pm chad s for prospray base info ( i hear he's the guy for base)
Clear

Done

Sand/scuff all surfaces to be painted including the bumpers.

Thank you for the replys!

So I do not need any flex additives? The bumper covers are Toyota yellow plastic. From the searches I did that is the conclusion I came up with.

Thanks again!!

Jeff

No.

PPG Concept SS calls for DX814 over flexible parts, the ratio depending on the hardener. You don't fully identify the paint you are using, so it's hard to say exactly.

Yes, this is actually the recommended procedure, especially when it will be cleared with SPI clear.

Standox is what I use, but if you have enough Concept for the vehicle, there is nothing inherently wrong with the procedure you outline, in fact it may be more durable than a bc/cc job, though urethane wave might be harder to control.
