I'm not sure it's been asked before, I haven't searched. I am in the market for a new spray gun. I have been a fan of Devilbiss for years I still have my first one an MBC with teflon cup and 30 tip, still works great and never ever had a problem. I also have an OMX (green plastic) another great gun bought it when they 1st came out. I also have a GTI Millennium bought when they 1st came out angain great gun. Now I feel I want another gun for clear mabey a new base gun too, do I stay with Devilbiss or try something else? I was looking into Optima or Iwata I'm not sure about SATA (no perticular reason short of mabey over rated, personal opinion only). Any experiance with the new Tekna's? Opions and experiance would be greatly appretiated. Never ever liked Sharp guns ever. There is nowhare I can demo anything.

Thanks,

Dave

When it comes to the quality guns, it comes down to what fits your style and technique better. Any of the quality guns will provide good end results, but if it is uncomfortable for you to use it isn't worth much. I prefer the Sata guns because they fit my painting style better than the Iwata's especially when it comes to clear. The Iwata uses less air and is a bit lighter than my Sata's, but they are slow to me. Again just my personal style and nothing wrong with the guns. My best advice is to try to find someone close to you with the gun you are considering and see if you can spray with it prior to buying one. Check with your local jobber, they used to have demo guns available from Sata and Iwata (around here at least) that you could take and try before you bought one.

What a great Idea for guys like me that are on a budget and won't be painting another car for a long time.......use a good demo gun for the job. Saved me $200 to go toward my red paint.:cheerful:

I wasn't saying he should use a demo gun to paint his car, I feel that would be shady at best. I was simply saying he should attempt to find a few guns to try before spending money on one.

I can see your point and I respect that. Perhaps I should have mentioned my jobber is a family best friend and a 12 of beer makes everything possible. :encouragement:

Having the right friends in the right places definitely has it's advantages.

I understood what he was saying. I called and asked my jobber (I did so before) but they still don't have any demo guns :(. I did however call another store 30mi south of me and they do have demo guns but I don't know which are demo's (I'm sure not all are) and will take a drive this weekend. I've been doing this type work for 30yrs and always have bought blind, I guess that is why I am leary of straying from my trusted brand especally without trying first given the expence, I'm not one of those that collect guns (one of my reps is, he came in once with a briefcase and 6 of his guns inside) or tools. I try to buy right the first time.

I'm not sure what guns he will have available, but if he has several, try them all. Since everyone sprays different, everyone has their preferences. I learned to spray with a Binks #7 on heavy equipment and farm tractors, so the Sata RP guns suit my "style" better than the Iwata. Others prefer the Iwata because they are lighter and use less air. It all comes down to how you spray and what you like. Good luck with the hunt and let us know what you end up with.
