original paint peeling - going to practice...

Back in the mid '90s Chrysler had a few issues with paint peeling off. I have a '95 pickup with the silver peeling off. I also have a '69 Mach 1 that I'm just getting ready to resto. So I'm going to use the truck to touch up my body work skills. I'm wondering on the truck if I just scuff the existing primer can I then lay down some fresh epoxy primer or what is recommended ?

Sand into that original primer some because the primer that's been exposed to the UV rays of the sun is deteriorated on the suface, I'd sand it with 180 on a DA then start with epoxy primer if you want a good chance for long term success.

Post up some pictures if you could stangnet as you go. I want to practice on my F150 before I jump on into my Mach 1 as well.

Here's a couple of crappy phone pics.
I'm the same stangnet on the stang site Ash, so I thought what you were doing was a good idea. My truck is a 96 Dodge 2500 2 wheel drive V10, she's doesnt look like much but she's a rocket :D

Yeah I know, I thought it was good to see you pop up here! I stumbled across this place after reading that another 69stang forum user used SPI at home in the shed and turned out a brilliant paint job. It'll be great to see how you go too. It's all new to me but it is amazing how much you can learn by following others.

That paint really isn't looking good. But a V10, crap! We don't have anything like that over here. I'm surprised you noticed the paint, I'd be too busy driving like a goose enjoying myself, haha! :D

boss had a v-10 pickup - said it would pass anything but a gas station,LOL.

Hahaha, I'd say that's why we have never and will never see a V10 pick up here on a showroom floor in Aus. At $1.50 per litre on average for basic ULP and about $1.60/$1.70 per litre for premium. Do the sums.

Ash,
You guys don't have any V-10 pickups but I bet there are a few here in the states that might like a Holden SS ute (6.0 litre alloy V8 and 6-speed)...

Very true Bob. I thought they released the Holden ute over the for a while? Maybe it was a very short run?

We do get a lot of nice utes and they have been around for decades. I've had my fair share of them in both 6cyl and V8's.

Being a Ford man though, and if my pockets were deeper, I'd be going for a new Ford FPV GS 315 Boss with the supercharged 5.0 and 6 speed manual.

Yeah, sorry for the hijack, I'll stop after this I promise... Ash, they killed Pontiac, that might be the reason those utes never got a real chance here in the States. Seeing those makes me want to go there and learn to drive on the "wrong" side of the road, lol!

Ah, makes sense now. It's a shame, was good to see an Aussie made car overseas. I know Europe and others get them but I too think they would have done well in the US. Shame about our Aussie Fords, Ford are hopeless at marketing anything and it shows in their sales figures.
