Paint warranties

Doing some marketing research. Was wondering if anyone has ever seen a written warranty from a major paint manufacturer that outlines what is covered or not for the body shop. (IE; labor, materials, etc.) I've seen the written warrantees from some for the customer, with their exclusions. Was looking more for the shop side. Does anyone work for a shop that has ever filed a claim? If so, what was the outcome good or bad?
If your shop has had to warranty a job, did the jobber help you out or did it come from the manufacturer?

I've read some warranties. I've seen a couple of warranty claims filed years ago and they ended up being a pay off from the manufacturer after confirmation it was a product problem, the pay off was not in dollars but enough materials to cover the jobs both in labor and supplies. Always follow the tech sheets and the techs need to be certified by the paint company in most cases. Every once in awhile a company will come out with a product then suddenly pull it all off the shelves-a good indication they are dealing with failures. I've seen primers pulled for adhesion failures, seen tech sheets rewritten for clears that shatter in the cold when using accelerator. I seen Evercoat step up and pay a claim they shouldn't have ever been involved with. The paint store if it's a smaller one will often overlook shelf life on a lot of products-some just don't know any better. The larger stores often get rep help in rotating stock and dumping old product-from what I've seen.
 
how much you buy determines your warranty . a big shop will get pampered by the rep , a small one will get a gal of clear.

Nothing is covered, well they list four things, then the 12 exclusions eliminate the four covered.

NOTHING is covered unless you are a certified shop and if you fail to renew the next year, you have no coverage.

I'm mailing you the warranty for one company today but they all read like they copied each other.
 
Most warranites are basically the same in the end it is up to the manufacturer if they will honour a problem or not. Working for a paint manufacturer in the past it is my experiance that if there is a problem with a product it is usually recalled before it hits the body shop. They usually know they have a problem well in advance of it getting out of control. However that being said defective products or ones that are just not that great have and are being sold to bodyshops. My opinion is if your paint supplier/ manufacturer values your business they will step up & help your shop resolve the issue. Throwing product at a problem is never a good solution to a problem. Finding why a problem keeps happening & making the proper changes to prevent it from happening is the best warranty you can ever get from you paint supplier. Even though some clear or primer makes you feel good it is not the fix to any warranty issue.

Mfr. warranties are worthless to my small operation. Even if you use the mfrs. overpriced system throughout, the payout on a successful warranty claim never comes close to the harm caused by the substandard or defective product.

I feel a lot better warrantying my paint work with SPI clear providing the protection. The jobs I have sprayed 7 years ago (when I opened my shop) still look shiny and fresh, while the PPG DC3000 on the hood of my wife's old van barely made it 5 years without fading, proof the the big names are turning out some real crap products.
