Painting a cowl that’s dirty inside

On this 70 F250 I’m working on, the cowl is pretty dusty inside. The top isn’t removable unless I drill out all the spot welds and remove it and I’m not doing that. The cowl vents will need to be sprayed.

Just curious what others have done for stuff like this. I don’t want a bunch of dust coming up when I spray it.

I would try to clean it as best as possible. Cowls have drains in them so water doesn't build up in there.
It will be a messy job for sure, so be prepared for that aspect.

If you're not worried about it, then blow any loose dust out of their and go ahead and shoot it.
The other option would be to spray water or something down in there to get the dust/dirt wet enough so it won't blow around.

I just first hosed it out with water and then spent a lot of time blowing mine out from the top and from the vent side. There was a little dust during the first few sprays of epoxy but it all got sanded and anyway. After that even though I was still sanding before the sealer and color I wasn’t getting any more nibs in that area. I just continued to keep spraying air from above and back through the vents until I wasn’t seeing any more dust flying.
