Painting Glass Windows

I have had customers in the past ask me about painting windows, both automotive and commercial (store front blank outs). My advice on vehicles where they were normally asking about rear side windows on delivery type vans, was to clean with alcohol based product, then epoxy prime before color. But I have never actually done this myself or seen the end results of those who did. Is this probably as good a way as any, or is there a better way or better product for doing this. I know sand blast etching would probably adhere better, but being able to razor blade it off later has often been wanted too.

There's a primer called Stix, made by Insl-x which is a division of Benjamin Moore. It is made for priming glass, ceramic tile, and other slick surfaces. I have used it and it definitely works. it can be topcoated with anything from latex to urethane to lacquer. I've bought it locally at a place that sells Ben Moore paint.

interesting. with glass though the only issue i see is that the primer is not clear so you will see white on the other side of the glass. that may or may not ba an issue for you. i wonder how much better that stuff would work vs a clear automotive adhesion promoter like spi's stuff. i have done a window once but it was so long ago, i forgot what i did. i could see the paint color through the glass so i would have had to just used adpro. i dont know what else i could have put on it.

i found some pictures. so i etched the logo on the interior side with a blaster then on the exterior i etched that as well then im pretty sure adpro, teal paint then topped it with white that matched the exterior then clear.

Epoxy should work fine..I have used it to make spandrel glass on commercial building..but I only used it to black out window..careful on high heat applications on tempered glass. It will blow itself up
