Painting panels separately?

I'm currently restoring a '70 Datsun 2000. I'd like to shoot the panels one at a time as I finish them. I don't have a large shop so it's easier for me to work in smaller "bites". Anyways, if I were to
A. Seal all parts with grey sealer before basing
B. Mix all base in shaker and stir before putting in separate quart cans
C. Make note of gun setting, coats, etc while spraying
could I achieve a paint job that isn't obviously different from panel to panel? Color will be HOK Platinum pearl.

You didn't pick the easiest color to try that out on. Solid colors or dark metallic colors are not that bad to do in pieces, but a pearl color is a bit tougher. If you think you are a good enough painter, you could get away with it. It would not be something to recommend to a hobbyist, but neither would I try to talk you out of it.

Dont do it.. Humidity, temp, air pressure, gun distance blah blah blah. all effect the color of a metallic and pearl.. Do yourself a favor., get all the parts sealed and based.. You can clear them separate, weeks apart if need be, but the color will be consistent if they were all shot the same day with the same gun and set up

just an fyi. if you havent shot that color before it doesnt cover worth a crap. lookin at 6-7 coats.

That is what I have heard. I may be looking into other companies as well, but that is what the owner of the car has picked out so far.

There is nothing special about that color. I mix it in diamont and it covers in 3. Almost any paint system will have a color really close to it.

Is Diamont one of the higher quality companies as far as base coats go? What products are quality base coats? I figured HOK would be so I started there. I'm just a little leary of choosing paint, it's very hard to tell what is quality when you don't use it every day.

Hok is a good paint line. Quality stuff BUT its transparent as all hell. They really do that so you have to but more product. Diamont is a basf line and is a real good quality paint. Not the cheapest but if you consider coverage it will come out same or cheaper than hok. Chad s on here sells prospray. That is a good paint line as well but prob a bit cheaper that diamont. He may be able to mix a color match for you and ship it

I just looked into BASF paints. I'm assuming Glasurit is the best they offer? In the R-M line, is Diamont the highest quality base? Also, is there a way to get paint chips or more of a "find a car you like and steal the paint code" paint?

55 line is glasurit's solvent base and diamont is rm's. both are basf companies and their top paint lines. Glasurit is supposed to cover a bit better but the few times i have used glasurit i havent noticed a difference. Another thing about hok is they constantly discontinue colors and replace so you never know with future repairability. Basf # ma453.90 is really close to platinum pearl. Plat has a bit of violet pearl in it that this code doesnt have. They are almost identical for the face color. Side angle they are slightly different. The basf color has a touch more sparkle and looks better at an angle. Any local basf jobber will have a chip for the code i just gave you.
