have never painted polished aluminum. im thinking 320 grit, clean real good, epoxy reduced a little and base clear? anything special i need to do? the parts wont be seeing any sunlight, fulltime atleast

Your plan should be fine. Polished aluminum often has been waxed or armor-all oversprayed over the years, so wash with dawn, then the standard 700 / 710 cleaners before you sand.

Any time we powder coat aluminum parts (or steel for that matter) we media blast so there is plenty of bite. I do the same as a prep for epoxy. No problems so far. (To use the POR15 quote…:p)
