Preparing old chrome for paint

I was thinking about painting the chrome on my 66 Mustang body color. What do you guys do to prep it? Does all the old chrome have to come off? Or do you just treat it like old paint and sand it?

barry has a specific recommendation for painting chrome. give him a call to get details.

Just so others will know, Andy recommended hitting the chrome with 80-180 on a DA. Then 2 wet coats of Epoxy.

SPI epoxy sticks well to chrome sanded with 150-180, though I would imagine for those who want the ultimate adhesion, sandblasting could not hurt.

For sure, didn't mean to discount sandblasting. I just posted that since the other gentleman said there was a specific recommendation. I figure I'd post what I was told to help others when they search :) I am definitely going to sandblast the backside of the parts where they are not chrome and cannot be sanded due to the shape. I have an old bent up bumper I am gonna practice on. Man so much practicing, I'm gonna have to buy more primer!
