Reclearing a car.

I recently bought an 80 Corvette that had been painted about a year ago. It looks good but they never wet sanded and buffed it out. So there is a lot of wave and orange peel. I am replacing the front and rear urethane bumpers with the flex fit ones and I am going to mold in the front one.
After I get them fixed I am going to prime, epoxy then wet sand the full front and rear of the car. I will blend the black into the existing black and then clear the front and rear sections.

What grit should I wetsand the clear with before I apply the color and then clear. 400, 600, 800. I am also going to reclear the doors. I have to put new door handles on and I know they just taped them off, so there will be a ridge when I remove them.

A lot depends on how much clear is on the vehicle. The safest way would be to prep it the way we do repainted blend panels, which is to carefully sand with 800, just barely eliminating the dirt and orange peel, avoiding edges and body lines, then going over the panel again with gray scotchbrite and Scuff Stuff to prep all the areas omitted with sandpaper.

I might have to do it with a little courser. There is a lot of peel,The guy wrote sunkist on the side. If I was to break thru I would just touch the spot up when I painted the black. The doors I will be more careful because I just want to clear them.

If you're clearing the whole car why not just use some SPI singlestage black and shoot the whole thing and skip the clear? You'll be putting color on the front, rear, and around the door handles anyway. A one gallon kit and you're done.

I would do that but I already have the SPI universal clear and I got a gallon of DBU 9700 black on E bay for $130.
