Removed the inner center roof brace to eradicate surface rust on the roof and to remove rust from the top and bottom of the brace.
Once I had drilled out the spot welds to remove the brace from the roof brackets, it just fell down.
Upon looking at the inner roof and the top side of the brace, I noticed what looked like a bead of seam sealer that was used from the factory. Seems logical to me so it doesn't rattle against the roof.
Seeing as the sealant is 50 plus years old and dried out, coupled with using the da on top of the roof to prep for epoxy, the bonding was broken.
Last week I ordered some two part seam sealer (Norton) for my drip rails. Can this be used to bond the roof brace to the underside of the roof so the brace doesn't rattle against the roof? Obviously the brace will be spot welded back in to eack side of the roofs brace brackets.
I'm 99.9% sure panel bond would hold but, could that brace every come off agian without causing major damage?
What would you use, seam sealer or panel bond?
