SPI Epoxy and self etching primer

I have a 70 F100 project that has places where the prior owner used rattle can "self etching " primer. Do I completely remove this down to bare metal prior to spraying the epoxy? Any other steps necessary?
 
I'd buzz it down with some 80 grit, give it a good cleaning with water-based cleaner, and spray on a few coats of epoxy.
 
Yes, remove etch primer completely clean with wax and grease remover, then go over metal with da and 80 grit.
 
Thanks, as you can see, I'm new here and this is my first time with SPI products. It is great to have all this info learn from. I just wish I was closer to a dealer. The nearest one is 90 min. away. But the mail service I got was just great. Thanks SPI.
