SPI Epoxy as a finish coat for a gas tank

Is there any problem using regular SPI epoxy as a finish coat for the exterior of a gas tank? Thanks

The SPI black epoxy has UV in it and does not need to be top coated

I asked Barry about this. His reply was that when submerged in gasoline (I had asked if it could be used to coat the inside as well) it becomes soft, but on the exterior of a tank it works great. Occasional spills and fumes don't bother.

Thank you for asking this Mark, and thanks to all for the answers. It will help me down the road with my tank.

I know my gas tank will be getting a coating w/ SPI epoxy as soon as all the small parts are ready on my 1949 Chevy 3800. I bought a new replacement tank 3 years ago and when I pulled it yesterday in preparation to pull the cab off the frame and start the bodywork, it was already starting to rust. Guess the old zinc ain't what it used to be. There will be 6 things on this truck that won't get SPI Epoxy - stainless, chrome, glass, plastic, rubber, or vinyl. Everything else will!
