SPI Epoxy over Lead?

C

cackle

When I saw these bumps I thought it was rust, come to find out it was factory installed lead. The project is a 63 Jaguar Mark X. The body has two layers of laquer based paint jobs. Im taking the body down to metal. I think whatever paint was applied reacted with the lead. I believe the factory used lead when joining panels. I have found these bumps coming through paint wherever lead was installed. Do I need to apply anything over these areas other than the epoxy? Thanks in advance.

If the lead is in good shape, and rust hasn't crept under it, you can prime it with SPI epoxy. Just sand it with 80 and clean it good with SPI waterborne wax & grease remover #700. I believe the bumps are probably from a bit of surface corrosion starting in the lead, which will be removed by sanding.

Existing lead shouldn't need the flux neutralized, but if baking soda wash is used, clean again afterwards with SPI #700.
