SPI Orange and White Stripe

Thinking of going SPI Orange (miss the Coronet a bit for the color in the garage) with a white center band... thoughts on the white... should it be SPI pure white or more of a cream white? Like this with the turquoise SPI orange..

Thoughts?

JMO opinion but with a bright orange like SPI, an off to creamy white would be a good contrast. Two colors that really pop or are bright like the orange and the pure white might be a little overwhelming. Or it might work perfectly. I would do some two tone test panels to see the actual colors together.

I like the color combo above as well. Those two colors work well together.

Testing is an excellent suggestion. The effects of color combinations might surprise you. For an example if the lesser color adjacent to a dominant color contains a small amount of the background (dominant), the background will take it away. Confused? General example: if you mixed a small amount of orange into white, slightly tinted were it looks peachy by itself in a cup, and put it on the orange, it would come off as white.
I used to hand letter trucks with lettering enamel (mostly OneShot) and I would mix background color into white when white was requested. Red truck: red into white looked pale pink. Blue truck: pale blue. You would swear the lettering was bright white.
In my youth I attended an art college and received a rare A+ grade on mixing colors. But truth be told I'm the last guy you want to ask about color choices. I have spent entire days mixing, testing and deciding! At least you decided the colors and the two tone.

i vote ermine white. but im with chris, i like the combo pictures, even if the strip was a lighter blue.

I was thinking about mixing but then for the future I would fail in making anything match for touchups....

True. Even a stock formula can be off. My post was just to offer another way to consider the color choices.
Mixing your own is tough to repeat even with only 2 colors used, although doable with a wet left-over sample. If 3 ingredients are involved it's a juggling act. Best bet I think is to pick from standard color chips with a known formula.
Last time I told the paint supplier to "just send me a bright clean white" was a mistake. Got something colder than ice in Antarctica.

I share other's opinions on creme colors rather than whites. If you have much exterior chrome--that creme or off white compliments better than a competing bright white out in the bright sun.

I think the bright orange with bright white will represent a more period correct hotrod look.

Whatever you decide to do will look fantastic. I'm sure of that opinion.

Interesting I was choosing the cream color for the same reason. Where does your period correct for the bright white come from?

Remember, I have two of these Chris I can paint one orange and one turquoise.
